Area Board of Zoning.Appeals—December 5,2012
their money to spend. I mean if they want to put$100,000 in building to look pretty and fail in a year, that's
their prerogative.
MR. PHIPPS: I guess my point is they haven't really promised us anything hard, or any building plans... I
think it's going to be more of a gradual improvement and ...
MR. VELLEMAN: And that may be the case but anything is better than what's there. I heard a lot, well a
few of the home owners said"tear the building down.." Well they don't own the building. They're leasing it.
They're wanting to improve it. You need to get to the owner then and say"tear this down" and then find
somebody to buy it from him and then do something and that would be a great idea but they're not the
owners so they can't control that, so, but I will agree just because of what the local area neighborhood is
asking for. That's the reason I voted that way.
MRS. HENRY: Mr. Matthys?
MR. MATTHYS: Yes. I'll go along.
MRS. HENRY: Mr. Crumlish:
MR. CRUMLISH: Yes.
MRS. HERNY: Mr. Young?
MR. YOUNG: Yes.
MRS. HENRY: Mr. Phipps?
MR, PHIPPS: Yes.
MRS. HENRY: Mr. Hawley?
MR. HAWLEY, I'd like to say also that I admit Gabriel for what he wants to do and I wish him the best. I
just feel in my heart this is the wrong location. And I respect and by the way I want to thank the neighbors
for taking the time to be here today even though you're last on the agenda but I thank you for that and my
vote is yes.
MRS. HENRY: Mr. Urbanski?
MR. URBANSKI: I would like to repeat without going through it what Mr. Hawley said. I feel the same
way and I feel the same way very much about those that came out from the neighborhood to express their
feeling about it, yes. This will be forwarded on the City of South Bend Common Council with a
Unfavorable Recommendation. Thank you.
51
