OJ immtttrt Rood <br /> 1 HUMAN RESOURCES AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE <br /> r ah3 the Omninon fltounrtl of the ettg of i nutlh lOenit: <br /> The January 22, 1990 meeting of the Human Resources and <br /> Economic Development Committee was called to order at 4:30 <br /> p.m. by its Chairman Council Member Steve Luecke. The <br /> meeting was held in the Council informal meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members: Slavinskas, <br /> Zakrzewski, Luecke, Coleman, Duda, Niezgodski, Voorde, and <br /> Puzzello; Ted Leatherman, Margot Doyle, George Wiegand, <br /> Earnest Szarwark, Ann Kolata, David Bent, Mr. & Mrs. Melvin <br /> W. Hartz, Don Porter, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> Council Member Luecke stated that the first item on the <br /> agenda was to review Resolution No. 90-3 which is a personal <br /> property tax abatement request for Total Composites, Inc. <br /> 4 g" for property located at 2629 Foundation Drive. Council <br /> Member Luecke then reviewed the report from the Department <br /> of Economic Development dated January 17, 1990 (copy <br /> attached) . Mr. Ernest Szarwark, an attorney with Barnes & <br /> Thornburg, then gave additional information with regard to <br /> the proposed project. He noted that the request is for a <br /> i. personal property tax abatement for a period of time of five <br /> (5) years. He noted that businesses such as John Deere are <br /> very anxious for the company to become operational. It has <br /> developed new types of resins for the manufacturing of <br /> plastics. It is a new type of technology and a very <br /> exciting project. It prolongs the "shelf-life" of plastics <br /> and would be on the "cutting-edge" of new technology in this <br /> area. <br /> Mr. Wiegand of Total Composites, Inc. noted that he has <br /> received interest in his product from companies and <br /> individuals from Australia as well as the United Kingdom. In <br /> response to questions raised by Council Member Luecke it was <br /> noted that no present equipment is being replaced and that <br /> it would all be new equipment. It was also noted that there <br /> would be no negative impact on the environment. Mr. Wiegand <br /> also noted that his company would be willing to work with <br /> ETS in the employment area. It was also noted that the <br /> project qualifies specifically under its SIC code. <br /> k Following very favorable comments from the Committee, <br /> Council Member Slavinskas made a motion seconded by Council <br /> X=' <br /> Member Duda that Resolution No. 90-3 be recommended <br /> favorably to Council. The motion passed unanimously. <br /> F, <br /> Ann Kolata then reviewed the report dated January 17, 1990 <br /> of the Department of Economic Development for the tax <br /> abatement request of Mack Took & Die, Inc.
