atanutattre Ennui <br /> • <br /> HUMAN RESOURCES AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT <br /> Wu tip Mammon &until aftlit (Mg of fikrid4 Rtnik: <br /> The November 23, 1987 meeting of the Human Resources and <br /> Economic Development Committee was called to order by its <br /> Chairwoman Councilwoman Eugenia Braboy at 5: 00pm in the <br /> • Council's informal meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Councilmen and Councilwomen: <br /> Taylor, Voorde, Barcome, Braboy, Paszek, Serge, Puzzello, <br /> Beck, and Zakrzewski; Beth Leonard, Dare Norris, Hedi <br /> Robinson, Jon Hunt, Jim Wensits, Carl Witt, Jim Crunk, Sandy <br /> Keifer, Ron Sherry, Sue Horseman, Jim Norton, Jim McClalten, <br /> Dick Maginot, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> Councilwoman Braboy noted that the first item to be reviewed <br /> was bill no. 113-87 which is a bill to transfer $80,000 <br /> among various accounts within the Department of Economic <br /> Development. Elizabeth Leonard presented the bill. She <br /> noted that this would be a reimbursement of their budget <br /> with $70,000 being earmarked for administration and $10, 000 <br /> • being earmarked for the near west side for the Sandock <br /> building (to secure only) . <br /> Following discussion Councilman Serge made a motion seconded <br /> by Councilman Taylor to recommend bill no. 113-87 favorably <br /> to the Council. The motion passed. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Resolution no. 87-89 which is a - <br /> tax abatement request for the property located at 3502 West <br /> McGill Street. Hedi Robinson then briefly reviewed the <br /> report from the Department of Economic Development. It was <br /> noted that the petitioner qualifies for a 3 year tax <br /> abatement. The facility would be an industrial supply house <br /> and would be operational in February of 1988. They <br /> currently have services in southern Michigan and Ohio and <br /> hope to increase the service area from South Bend by a 70 to <br /> 80 mile radius. Mr. Isaiah Jackson of the Minority Affairs <br /> Council asked several questions of the petitioner. <br /> Following further discussion, Councilman Serge made a motion <br /> seconded by Councilman Taylor that Resolution ho. 87-89 be <br /> recommended favorably to the Council. The motion passed. <br /> 1 <br /> The Committee then reviewed Resolution no. 87-90 which is a <br /> ten year tax abatement request presented by Sandy Keifer. <br /> It was noted that there would be three residential units <br /> upstairs and a deli and retail store at the bottom level. <br /> The development would be phased. <br /> Following discussion Councilman Taylor, made a motion <br /> seconded by Councilwoman Beck that Resolution no. 87-90 be <br /> recommended favorably to the Council.
