(llnntmntfuu Erpurt <br /> HUMAN RESOURCES AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE <br /> tin the Gammon QIounrl of the (Ong of Etouth Irnb: <br /> The May 26, 1987 meeting of the Human Resources and Economic <br /> Development Committee was called to order by its Chairman, <br /> Councilman Eugenia Braboy, at 4: 45 p.m. in the Council informal <br /> meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included: Councilmen Serge, Braboy, <br /> Beck, Puzzello, Taylor, Zakrzewski, Voorde and Barcome; Richard <br /> L. Parker , Hedi Robinson, Don Inks, Carol Sanders , Eugenia <br /> Schwartz , Ernest J. Szarwark , members of the news media and <br /> Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> Councilman Braboy noted that there were several items on the <br /> agenda for review and recommendation by the Committee. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Resolution No. 87-48 which was a <br /> resolution requesting real property tax abatement for that <br /> property located at 601 West Broadway . Street and Resolution No. <br /> 87-49 which was a personal property tax abatement for the • <br /> property located at 601 West Broadway Street . <br /> Hedi Robinson of the Department of Redevelopment then <br /> reviewed the report (copy attached). Mr. Ernest Szarwark of the • <br /> Barnes and Thornburg law firm then briefly reviewed the two (2) <br /> proposed resolutions.. He indicated that Allied Products <br /> Corporation has been in this area since 1964 and that since <br /> moving here they have had a history of investing in the City. He <br /> further indicated that at least thirty (30) jobs would be saved. <br /> with an annual payroll of $600 , 000. <br /> Councilman Braboy complimented Allied Products Corporation <br /> on remaining in South Bend , improving their facility and <br /> investing in our City. Councilman Serge stated that we need to <br /> retain jobs within the South Bend area. <br /> Following discussion, Councilman Serge made a motion, <br /> seconded by Councilman Puzzello, that Resolutions No. 87-48 and <br /> No. 87-49 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 45-87 which would <br /> appropriate $1 , 638 ,455.05 from the UDAG Fund for the purpose of . <br /> assisting in the continuing development and operation of a <br /> downtown office facility. Don Inks reviewed the proposed bill <br /> with the Committee. He indicated that this would close the <br /> project on the HUD funds. <br />
