2. Turf Seed Installation: Sow seed with drill seeding machine. Evenly distribute seed by <br />sowing equal quantities in two directions at right angles to each other. <br />a. Do not use wet seed or seed that is moldy or otherwise damaged. <br />b. Do not seed against existing trees. Limit extent of seed to outside edge of planting <br />saucer. <br />c. Sow seed at a total rate of 4 Ib/1000 sq. ft. <br />d. Rake seed lightly into top 1/8 inch of soil, roll lightly, and water with fine spray, <br />e. Protect seeded areas with slopes exceeding 1:3 with erosion -control mats installed <br />and stapled according to manufacturer's written instructions. <br />(i) Erosion Control Mats shall be paid separately as part of Erosion Control Measures. <br />f. Protect seeded areas with slopes not exceeding 1:3 by hydromulch. Spread uniformly <br />at a minimum rate of 1 1/2 tons/acre to form a continuous blanket over seeded areas. <br />(i) Mix fertilizer and fiber mulch in water, using equipment specifically designed for <br />hydromulch application. Continue mixing until uniformly blended into <br />homogeneous slurry suitable for hydraulic application. <br />(i) Mix slurry with fiber -mulch manufacturer's recommended tackifier. <br />(ii) Apply slurry uniformly to all seeded areas. Apply slurry cover coat of fiber <br />mulch at a rate of 1 1/2 ton/acre <br />(ii) Take precautions to prevent damage or staining of structures or other plantings <br />adjacent to mulched areas. Immediately clean damaged or stained areas. <br />3. Measure and Payment <br />a. Payment for all planting costs for Seeding, and Topsoil Mix shall be paid for including the <br />cost of all materials, equipment, tools, labor, transportation, operations, and all other <br />incidentals, shall be paid for on a square yardage basis under the pay items: <br />SEEDING AND TOPSOIL..................................................................SYS <br />XXXVII. TEMPORARY EROSION CONTROL MEASURES <br />A. Prevailing Specifications: 2020, INDOT Standard Specifications Section 205 <br />B. Additions: <br />1. Temporary erosion and sediment control is required for all work. It shall be the <br />responsibility of the Contractor during construction to prevent erosion. <br />2. The Contractor shall be responsible for adhering to the City of South Bend specifications <br />and requirements regarding erosion and sedimentation control. Temporary Erosion Control <br />shall include the cost implementation of the plan and maintenance of the erosion control <br />elements. Should the Contractor fail to comply with the requirements of the Erosion Control <br />Plan or fail to adequately implement or maintain the elements of the plan, the Contractor <br />shall be solely responsible for fines, imprisonment or any other penalties lawfully imposed. <br />3. Erosion control measures shall be installed in accordance with current City of South Bend <br />Standard Specifications and the Indiana Stormwater Quality Manual. <br />Version 08/25/2021 Special Provisions -16 <br />
