Where abutting existing curb, the new curb height shall be adjusted during the last ten (10) feet to <br />match the existing curb profile. <br />5. The only acceptable method of curing will be white membrane. All concrete shall be membrane - <br />cured regardless of weather conditions. <br />6. Concrete Curb, as a pay item, stops at the commencement of any c oncrete approach or curb ramp. <br />For a concrete approach with a wing, this is at the beginning of the wing. For an approach/curb <br />ramp with a radius, the approach/curb ramp ends and the curb begins at the tangent point of the <br />radius of the approach/curb ramp and the curb line. (Running a curb slip-forming machine through <br />a concrete approach will not be considered in the quantity for curb) <br />7. Where existing curb is to be removed and replaced without replacing the adjacent pavement, the <br />contractor shall saw cut the existing pavement near the curb prior to removal. The area between <br />the proposed curb and existing pavement shall be filled with Compacted HMA Base to a depth of <br />1 ½” below the finished elevation, with 1 ½” of HMA Surface applied to the concrete, in accordance <br />with the details shown in the plans. The cost of the pavement removal, restoration, concrete, and <br />asphalt will not be paid for separately but shall be included in the cost of the item. <br />9. Areas disturbed during the removal and replacement of curb shall be restored in accordance with <br />the plans. If disturbance is outside of the construction limits shown in the plans, the areas shall be <br />restored to original or better condition. All costs associated with this restoration shall be included <br />in the unit price for the concrete curb. <br />10. Measurement and Payment <br /> <br />a. Payment for all costs of concrete curb and concrete curb and gutter, including the cost of all <br />materials, equipment, tools, labor, transportation, operations, and all other incidentals, shall be <br />paid for on a linear foot basis under the pay items: <br /> <br />STANDARD CURB, CONCRETE…………………...….………………………………LFT <br />XXVIII. CONCRETE SIDEWALKS <br />A. Prevailing Specifications: 2022, INDOT Standard Specifications Section 604 <br />B. Additions: <br />1. Expansion joints shall be placed at a maximum spacing of forty (40) feet and at any additional <br />places as shown on the City of South Bend “Design and Construction Standards”. Payment for <br />joint material for sidewalk and curb ramps will be included in the unit price for the respective Pay <br />Item. <br /> <br />2. Transverse control joints shall be placed at equal intervals not to exceed five (5) feet. <br /> <br />3. The use of slag or local aggregate will not be permitted. <br /> <br />4. The Contractor shall provide job mix formula information, admixtures, with specified finish for <br />approval by the Owner in advance of ordering the material. All work shall be done in accordance <br />with the color material manufacturer’s recommendations. <br /> <br />5. The Contractor shall provide job mix formula information including admixtures to the City a <br />minimum of five (5) working days prior to the work. <br /> <br />6.
