F . _€ mmti2rr part <br /> On flit alnmmnn Qounril of 11 r QIit of onuxli limo: RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOODS COMMITTEE <br /> The September 27 meeting of the Residential Neighborhoods Committee <br /> was called to order by its Chairman, Beverlie Beck at 5 :30 p.m. in the <br /> Council meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included: Councilmen Serge, Szymkowiak, <br /> Beck, McGann,Taylor, Zielinski,Crone, Harris, and Voorde; Mr. Richard <br /> Bonewitz,Carl F. Busser, Franklin S. Asper, Doris Asper, Helen Janowski, <br /> Joe Janowski, James Muldoon, Richard Darr, Esther Darr, Lany Robertson, <br /> Mrs. D.E. Belmont, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Fisher, Donald Molnar, Diane Molnar, <br /> G.L. VanDerGracht, Robert Robinson, Mary L. Robinson, members of the news <br /> media and. Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the re-zoning of 935 <br /> South Ironwood Drive. <br /> Following an introduction of all persons present, Councilman Beck <br /> called upon Attorney Bonewitz to give a brief presentation on behalf of the <br /> petitoner. Mr. Bonewitz noted that the home is an old historical house in <br /> the River Park area. The petitioners wish to re-zone the home so that the <br /> "House of Flowers" can be moved to this location. He further noted that this <br /> business has been successfully run by the petitioner for 23 years at their <br /> address on Lincolnway. Pictures of the Lincolnway site were passed to the <br /> Committee, and the drawings of the home at 935 S. Ironwood were briefly <br /> highlighted. Mr. Bonewitz noted that the exterior of the house would not be <br /> changed due to its historical designation, however a substantial amount of <br /> remodeling would be necessary to improve its deteriorated _candition. He noted <br /> that the use proposed would generate little traffic <br /> Mrs. Darr, one of the petitioners noted that the house was built <br /> in 1893. She has always considered it to be her "dream house" and was looking <br /> forward to running the House of Flowers from this location. It was further <br /> noted that two lots were involved and that most of the business generated <br /> was via the telephone. <br /> A copy of the site plan was then passed to the Committee noting <br /> that 8 parking spaces would be provided, three of which would be for employeeE <br /> Councilman Serge,a=represeitati.ve from the Area Plan Commission <br /> explained that the proposed zoning received an unfavorable ruling since they <br /> believed it would be "spot zoning" . Councilman McGann read the minutes from <br /> the Area Plan meeting and noted that the Commission considered it to be a <br /> "disruption of the residential neighborhood. Mr. Bonewitz countered by <br /> stating he believed it was "a mild commercial use" and would be good for the <br /> neighborhood. <br /> Councilmen Szymkowiak and Voorde asked several questions, and in <br /> particular the amount of work that had to be done to the house. <br /> • Several citizens residing in the neighborhood voiced their <br /> opinions about the re-zoning. Many stated that they were not fighting the <br /> Flower Shop per se but rather changing the zoning from residential to <br /> commerical.Mrs. Molnar stated that she was still interested in purchasing the <br /> /BS[ Pet.. .t / PUBLISHING CO. <br />
