TAYLOR October 2, 1986 Fire Chief South Bend Common Council County-City Building South Bend, IN 46601 Honorable Council Members: The attached bill requesting an appropriation from the EMS Capital Improvement Fund is once again a part of our continuing efforts to replace our vehicles and equipment when necessary and repair our Fire Stations as it also becomes necessary. If you recall , an appropriation was made earlier in the year for the purchase of a cab and chassis on which we would remount the ambulance module. While the bidding procedure was in process, we were assured that the vehicle we required was available. When the funds became available, the vehicle was not and it became necessary to solicit bids for the purchase of a new ambulance. The requested $31 , 000 . 00 along with the earlier appropriation will cover the cost of the new ambulance. The second request is for funds to update our diver' s equipment . The attached list will explain how we plan to do this. In the near future, there will be increased activity on the river because of sport fishing and the possibilities for accidents will be multiplied several times over the present. I think you will agree with me that the above reason and the reasons in the attachment are valid and the purchase of this equipment will allow us to continue the excellent service our men are giving the public. Needless to say, I am proud of the hard work and dedication shown by all involved in this program and I know that we are second to none in this area.
