It was noted <br /> that revenue for 2004 is approximately $12,000 and expenses are approximately $8,200. From <br /> March 22, 2004 they have had 3,460 residents and 755 non-residents. <br /> Council Member Pfeifer requesting an operating statement for the skateboard park for <br /> the 2003 calendar year. <br /> Council Member Pfeifer inquired about junior baseball at the King Center. Ms. <br /> O'Connor stated that they do not offer junior baseball there. Council Member Kirsits noted that <br /> nationally participation is down. <br /> Ms. O'Connor then highlighted proposed increases/decreases in the 2005 proposed <br /> recreation budget. She summarized the 2004 playground/lunch program at the various parks and <br /> noted that due to budget cuts in 2003 this program was not offered at seven (7) parks. She then <br /> reviewed the page setting forth the playground costs per park which average $5,925 and if the <br /> park has junior baseball the cost is$9,318. <br /> Ms. O'Connor then highlighted programs which are NOT included in the proposed 2005 <br /> budget such as an after school program at six(6) sites for a cost of$190,628.46 and projected <br /> revenue of$319,200; year-round aquatic complex activities and proposed membership increases <br /> for the O'Brien Fitness Center. <br /> Council Member Pfeifer inquired about the former LaSalle High School pools. Ms. <br /> O'Connor stated that it has one (1) pool which is being used by Adams students. She noted that <br /> all pools are being used. <br /> Mr. St. Clair stated that he does not believe that the city can rely on the South Bend <br /> Community School corporation for such activities in the long run. He noted that doctors are <br /> referring clients to O'Brien for rehab. He stated that they have outgrown the fitness center and <br /> are at the maximum amount of memberships. <br /> Dr. Varner suggested that the city look into getting certified for rehab at O'Brien and <br /> that they may be able to get additional revenues. <br /> Council Member Pfeifer inquired whether the city has ever looked at partnering with <br /> the YMCA, since she understands that they are interested in moving west. <br /> Personnel and Finance Committee Meeting of September 7, 2004 Page 6 <br />
