CITY OF SOUTH BEND: COAL LINE TRAIL (PHASE II) 2 <br />WE UNDERSTAND YOUR PROJECT <br />The 3,200-foot-long improvement connects with the Riverside Trail on the west side of the <br />St. Joseph River, traverses east on the former railroad bridge over the river, and constructs a <br />new 10 to 12-foot, HMA shared-use path along the old rail corridor to the north of Angela <br />Boulevard toward SR 933, where it completes the linkage with East Bank Trail. <br /> <br />The abandoned railroad bridge rehabilitatfon replaces the rail tfes with a concrete deck, uses <br />pneumatfcally-placed mortar and injected epoxy to address the pier deterioratfon (spalls and <br />cracking), improves the scour protectfon using Class I riprap, reconstructs the beam seats, <br />installs elastomeric bearings, partfally removes and embeds new reinforcing steel, and <br />replaces end bents, and cleaning and paintfng the structural steel to restore the structure ’s <br />useful life and strengthen the platiorm carrying the trail over the river. <br />PROJECT APPROACH <br /> PROPOSED NEW TRAIL <br /> EAST BANK TRAIL <br /> RIVERSIDE TRAIL <br />Riverwalk Trail Connection Monitor work around <br />60 kV AEP buried line <br />Debris at Pier #7 & waterway <br />MOT is necessary to <br />channelize any traffic away <br />from on-going construction <br />East Bank Trail Connection
