<br />Version 08/25/2021 Page - 21 Public Works Quote <br />2A. DEWATERING <br /> <br />A. General Description <br /> <br />Work for this item includes, but is not limited to, the furnishing of all material, equipment, labor, <br />State/Local permits and erosion control measures required to lower and control ground water table <br />levels to permit excavation, backfill, and construction to be performed in the dry. <br /> <br />Contractor shall note that partial/full use of the provisional dewatering pay item shall be approved by <br />the Owner in advance of the work. <br /> <br />B. System Requirements <br /> <br />Dewatering system shall be of sufficient size and capacity necessary to lower and maintain ground <br />water table to an elevation below lowest bottom of pipe trench and to allow material to be excavated in <br />a reasonably dry condition. Materials to be removed shall be sufficiently dry to permit excavation to <br />grades shown and to stabilize excavation slopes where shoring is not provided. Dewatering system <br />shall meet the following minimum requirements: <br /> <br />· Prevent undermining of foundation strata <br />· Maintain stability of sides and bottom of excavation <br />· Construction operations are performed in the dry <br />· Erosion is controlled <br />· Flooding of excavations or damage to structures does not occur <br /> <br />C. Water Disposal <br /> <br />Water removed from the excavations shall be disposed in such a manner as it will not endanger portions <br />of work under construction or completed. Water disposal shall cause no inconvenience to Owner or to <br />others working near site and shall comply with any applicable City of South Bend standards. <br /> <br />D. Corrective Measures <br /> <br />If dewatering requirements are not satisfied due to inadequacy or failure of the dewatering system <br />(loosening of the foundation strata, or instability of slopes, or damage to foundations or structures), <br />perform work necessary for reinstatement of foundation soil and damaged structure or damages to <br />work in place resulting from such inadequacy or failure by Contractor, at no additional cost to the Owner. <br /> <br />E. Measurement and Payment <br /> <br />The Contractor shall be paid on a lump sum basis for dewatering operations approved by the <br />Owner/Engineer. <br /> <br />F.
