<br />Version 08/25/2021 Page - 13 Public Works Quote <br />3. RE-BEDDING OF EXISTING PIPE <br /> <br />A. General Description <br /> <br />Work for this item includes, but is not limited to, the furnishing of all material, equipment, labor, permits, <br />hauling, excavation, backfill, compaction, aggregate, lines and grades, site restoration, temporary <br />material storage, pedestrian barricades, traffic control devices, lawful removal and disposal of materials <br />and all other necessary items required to re-bed existing piping in accordance with City of South Bend <br />Standard Drawing 5-7 and as shown in the plans and specified herein. <br /> <br />B. Preliminary Work <br /> <br />The Contractor shall verify the locations of all utilities by contacting Indiana 811 at 1-800-382-5544 at <br />least three (3) working days, not counting Saturdays, Sundays or federal and state holidays before <br />proceeding with construction. It shall also be the Contractors responsibility to contact any private or <br />other utility that is not contacted by Indiana 811 and verify the utility locations. <br /> <br />C. Excavation <br /> <br />Excavation of in-situ materials shall be in accordance with INDOT Standard Specification section 203. <br />The Contractor shall be responsible to provide temporary excavation safety devices meeting the <br />requirements of OSHA Subpart P - Excavations. Overall trench width shall be in accordance with City <br />of South Bend Standard Drawing 5-7. The Contractor shall excavate to a minimum depth of 4” below <br />existing bottom of pipe elevation. <br /> <br />D. Backfill, Compaction & Pipe Bedding <br /> <br />The intent of re-bedding efforts is to re-use in-situ soils where possible. The Engineer shall decide on <br />any question of soil suitability. No soils shall be removed from the site without specific approval from <br />the Engineer, until the project is accepted. Where voids or unsuitable soils require additional backfill <br />material, INDOT type II or III structural backfill shall be used in accordance with City of South Bend <br />Standard Drawing 5-7. Type II or III structural backfill shall be in accordance with INDOT section 211. <br /> <br />Backfill shall be placed in maximum 8” loose lifts and compacted to 100% standard proctor density. <br /> <br />All utility trenches to within 60” of a paved surface shall be backfilled using removable flowable fill to a <br />depth of 12” above the top of existing pipe crown. Removable flowable backfill shall be in accordance <br />with INDOT section 213. <br /> <br />The Contractor shall submit Removable Flowable Fill mix design and structural backfilll gradation <br />information to the Engineer for review/approval prior to backfill. <br /> <br />E. Temporary Shoring <br /> <br />Contractor shall provide temporary shoring as required to support existing building foundations and <br />exterior wall sections. Temporary shoring shall be sufficiently sized to ensure no detrimental cracking, <br />settling, or deterioration of foundation elements, masonry walls, window assemblies or façade. Shoring <br />assemblies shall be in accordance with OSHA subpart P – Excavations. <br /> <br />The Contractor shall submit to the Engineer a Temporary Shoring plan detailing the proposed shoring <br />efforts to be used on the project. The shoring plan shall be signed and sealed by a registered <br />Professional Engineer licensed in the State of Indiana. The submittal shall include the following <br />information: <br /> <br />· Contractor’s stamp indicating the enclosed details are based on the latest design and <br />incorporate any prior comments/revisions <br />· Plan & Detail views to sufficiently convey the general intent of the shoring system, including <br />the size and quantity of supports to be used <br />· Professional Engineer’s Signature & Seal
