<br />Version 08/25/2021 Page - 12 Public Works Quote <br />Metal reinforcing shall be accurately placed and secured in position. It shall be supported by concrete <br />or plastic chairs or spacers, or by metal hangers. Reinforcement shall be covered by at a minimum two <br />inches of concrete, unless specified or shown otherwise. <br /> <br />The Contractor shall provide curing operations in accordance with City of South Bend standard drawing <br />2-28 following the provisions of INDOT Standard Specification section 501.20. <br /> <br />The Contractor shall be responsible for any repairs or removal and replacement of all or portions of the <br />work due to vandalism, other damage, or any detrimental random cracking prior to the acceptance of <br />the project as deemed necessary by the Owner at the Contractor’s expense. <br /> <br />F. Concrete Joints <br /> <br />Concrete joints shall be constructed in accordance with City of South Bend standard drawing 2-12. <br /> <br />G. Washout Basin <br /> <br />Contractor shall provide a concrete washout basin in accordance with City of South Bend standard <br />drawing 7-6. Contractor shall coordinate location of washout basin with the Owner prior to installation. <br /> <br />H. Concrete Testing <br /> <br />Contractor’s concrete mix design submittal shall include the following test information: <br /> <br />· Compression tests in accordance with ASTM C39 <br />· Slump tests in accordance with ASTM C143 <br />· Air Content in accordance with ASTM C233 <br /> <br />I. Welded Wire Mesh <br /> <br />Welded wire mesh shall be plain welded steel wire meeting the requirements of ASTM A185 and ASTM <br />A82. Wire mesh shall be installed in field or pre-cut sheets, rolled wire mesh shall not be accepted. <br />Contractor shall be responsible to provide adequate support such that proper alignment and cover are <br />provided. <br /> <br />All reinforcement shall be free from scale or excessive rust when placed in the work. A thin coating of <br />red rust resulting from short exposure will not be considered objectionable when reinforcement is placed <br />in the work, but any reinforcement having rust or scale or a thick coating shall be removed from the job <br />unless thoroughly cleaned and accepted by the Engineer. All reinforcement shall be stored off and <br />above the ground, out of danger of becoming coated with mud, oil or grease, and protected from the <br />weather. Reinforcement shall be placed in the positions shown on the plans or in accordance with the <br />instruction of the Engineer. <br /> <br />J. Measurement and Payment <br /> <br />The Contractor shall be paid for on a per square foot basis for concrete sidewalk installed and accepted <br />by the Owner/Engineer. Note that cost of all earthwork operations (excavation, backfill, compaction, <br />etc.) beyond subgrade preparation are included elsewhere. <br /> <br />K.
