tommttat Atport <br /> tommunttt antr C onomtr ikvxiopmtnt Qommtttet <br /> The May 27, 2003 meeting of the Community and Economic Development Committee was called <br /> to order by its Chairperson, Council Member Karl King at 4:03 p.m. in the Council Informal <br /> Meeting Room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members Kelly, Kuspa, Varner, Kirsits, Pfeifer, White <br /> and King; Building Commissioner Don Fozo, Bill Schalliol, Jeff Myers, Tiberus Mihalache, <br /> Magee Cook, Michael Beitzinger, Terry Bland of the boutij gVLbUUe and Council <br /> Attorney Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> Council Member King noted that the Committee consisted of Council Members Kuspa, Varner, <br /> Kelly and himself as Chairperson. <br /> Council Member King called for a presentation on Bill No. 35-03 which would <br /> appropriate <br /> g <br /> p <br /> $100,000 from the Economic Development State Grant Fund for the purpose of assisting in the <br /> support of the Division of Economic Development's Area revitalization effort. <br /> Bill Schalliol of Community & Economic Development made the presentation. He noted that the <br /> monies would be used for investigation and remediation of properties containing underground <br /> storage tanks as a part of the Commercial Corridor Program. The funds are grant monies from <br /> IDEM and EPA. He further noted that any additional funds which may be necessary would come <br /> from city funds. <br /> No one from the public spoke in favor or against the Bill. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Kelly made a motion, seconded by Council Member <br /> Kuspa that Bill No. 35-03 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 36-03 which would appropriate $48,270 from the <br /> Economic Development State Grant Fund for the purpose of assisting in the support of the <br /> Division of Economic Development's area revitalization effort. <br /> Bill Schalliol of Community & Economic Development made the presentation. He noted that the <br /> monies would be used to provide continued environmental site assessment activities in the <br /> Studebaker/Oliver Redevelopment Project Area. The IDFA grant monies would allow for a <br /> secondary site assessment of a part of the former South Bend Stamping plant site located at 601 W. <br /> Broadway. <br /> No one from the public spoke in favor or against the Bill. <br /> Following discussion, Dr. Varner made a motion, seconded by Council Member Kuspa that Bill <br /> No. 36-03 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 03-51 which is a five (5) year residential real property tax <br /> abatement request for the property located at 2701 Northside Boulevard petitioned for by Tiberius <br /> Mihalache. <br /> Michael Beitzinger, Economic Development Specialist, reviewed his report dated May 20, 2003 <br /> (copy attached). Mr. Beitzinger stated that the petitioner proposes to build a 2,026 square foot <br />
