ctommitat 1euort: <br /> Zoning ataf Summation tommitt* <br /> The January 14, 2002 meeting of the Zoning and Annexation Committee was called to order by <br /> the Committee Chairperson Council Member Karen White at 5:08 pm in the Council Informal <br /> Meeting Room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members: Varner, Coleman, White,Kelly, Ujdak,Kirsits, <br /> and Pfeifer;John Oxian of Historic Preservation,Building Commission Don Fozo,Terry Bland of <br /> the'onf j Akrar Crain-me,and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney. <br /> Council Member White noted that the first item on the agenda was to review Bill No. 121-01 <br /> which is a request to establish an historic landmark for the structure and real property located at <br /> 224 West Colfax. <br /> Mr. John Oxian made the presentation. He noted that the structure is two-story and was built in <br /> 1921 by Edythe and Gertrude Brown. It is an excellent example of the Sullivanesque style of <br /> commercial architecture and is rated an S/11 in the Indiana Historic Sites and Structures Inventory. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Coleman made a motion, seconded by Council Member <br /> Varner that Bill No. 121-01 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 122-01 which is a request to establish an historic landmark <br /> for the structure and real property located at 333 Tonti. <br /> Mr. John Oxian made the presentation. He noted that the structure is a two-story Dutch Colonial <br /> Revival Style house built in 1920 by Elias Strickland. It is currently rated a C/9 in the Indiana <br /> Historic Sites and Structures Inventory, however Mr. Oxian noted that it could easily be re-rated to <br /> an S/11 in his opinion. <br /> Dr. Varner inquired whether the owner was aware of this request. Mr. Oxian stated that the owner <br /> wrote a letter to the Commission in favor of the designation. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Coleman made a motion, seconded by Dr. Varner that Bill <br /> No. 122-01 be recommended favorably. The motion passed. <br /> Council Member White then called for a presentation on Bill No. 123-01 which would establish as <br /> an historic landmark the structure and real property located at 1313 Liston. <br /> Mr. Oxian made the presentation. He noted that the two-story home is an excellent example of the <br /> Queen Anne style of architecture and is believed to have been built in 1911 or 1912 by Adele <br /> Domke. It is rated as an S/11 in the Indiana Historic Sites and Structures Inventory. It has under <br /> gone extensive restoration after the 1979 survey which Mr. Oxian believes returns it to its "original <br /> Queen Anne splendor". <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Coleman made a motion seconded by Council Member <br /> Ujdak that Bill No. 123-01 be recommended favorable to Council. The motion passed. <br /> Council Member Coleman inquired about the load currently being handled by the Historic <br /> Preservation Commission. Mr. Oxian stated that with the proposed designations tonight they will <br /> have 110 landmarks which would be the most of any city in Indiana. He noted that he believes that <br />
