Airport Economic Development Area <br />(1) continued... <br />Mayor Luecke expressed his excitement <br />about this project also. He thanked the <br />residents of the area who have been pushing <br />for improvements at the LaSalle Square <br />facilities. We think this compliments the <br />planning that is going to there. This is a <br />great example of partnership between two <br />great healthcare facilities in the community. <br />He asked for favorable consideration by the <br />Commission. <br />Dr. Varner noted that participation from the <br />patient is going to be the model for future <br />healthcare. He asked whether the amount of <br />classroom space would be sufficient. Ms. <br />DeMont responded that they believed it <br />would be. Both hospitals have a lot of <br />programming in place that can be brought to <br />this location. They expect each organization <br />to have to contribute a couple of hundred <br />dollars a year in education expenses. In the <br />long run, they expect the benefits to reduce <br />inpatient care. They think there is enough <br />programming space, though they are not <br />opposed to taking their programs off site to <br />other locations. Sister Laureen noted they <br />have also found that smaller group <br />discussions are of more benefit when <br />discussing personal health. <br />Ms. Jones noted that it was about two years <br />ago that the Commission and staff began <br />discussing with interested parties the <br />improvement to this area. The city has <br />included a certain amount in its budget this <br />year for just such improvements. She is <br />6 <br />
