APPENDIX E <br />istoric reservation co issi <br />p on <br />of south bend and st. joseph county <br />ROOM 1123 COUNTY CITY BUILDING <br />south bend, indiana 46601 (219) 284-9798 <br />May 16, 1988 <br />STAFF REPORT <br />14912 Brick Road <br />Granger, IN 46530 <br />Local Landmark <br />PROPOSAL <br />Part I <br />The owner proposes to demolish an existing 2 car garage adjacent to the <br />schoolhouse. The garage is in deteriorated condition. At the April IS <br />meeting, the vote was 4-0 to approve. <br />Part 2 <br />The owner proposes to construct a new 30' x 32' one level <br />garage/workshop with gable eaves to the street. The building is to have <br />horizontal lapped cedar siding and asphalt shingle roof. There will be <br />a single overhead garage door and two service doors as per the drawing. <br />A new 10' gravel driveway will be constructed from Brick Road to the <br />garage which is located at the SE corner of the lot approximately 100 <br />feet SE of the schoolhouse. At the April 18 meeting, the vote was 4-0 <br />to approve. <br />Part 3 <br />The owner proposes to remove trees and brush behind the schoolhouse in <br />the area around the former outhouses to create a backyard and for septic <br />tank purposes. <br />STANDARDS <br />Part I <br />D. Demolition <br />Historic landmarks shall not be demolished. When a landmark poses a <br />threat to the public safely, and demolition is the only alternative, <br />documentation by way of photographs, measured drawings, or other <br />descriptive methods should be made of both the exterior and interior of <br />the landmark. <br />Parts 2 and 3 <br />S. Treatment <br />A treatment change . . . to the landmark or its environment may [not] <br />significantly alter the appearance of the landmark . . . [and] <br />. the Commission should review the proposed treatment for character <br />and style consistency . . . and [the treatment] should be added in a <br />manner that does not disrupt the visual unity of the site. <br />
