APPENDIX E istoric reservation co issi p on of south bend and st. joseph county ROOM 1123 COUNTY CITY BUILDING south bend, indiana 46601 (219) 284-9798 May 16, 1988 STAFF REPORT 14912 Brick Road Granger, IN 46530 Local Landmark PROPOSAL Part I The owner proposes to demolish an existing 2 car garage adjacent to the schoolhouse. The garage is in deteriorated condition. At the April IS meeting, the vote was 4-0 to approve. Part 2 The owner proposes to construct a new 30' x 32' one level garage/workshop with gable eaves to the street. The building is to have horizontal lapped cedar siding and asphalt shingle roof. There will be a single overhead garage door and two service doors as per the drawing. A new 10' gravel driveway will be constructed from Brick Road to the garage which is located at the SE corner of the lot approximately 100 feet SE of the schoolhouse. At the April 18 meeting, the vote was 4-0 to approve. Part 3 The owner proposes to remove trees and brush behind the schoolhouse in the area around the former outhouses to create a backyard and for septic tank purposes. STANDARDS Part I D. Demolition Historic landmarks shall not be demolished. When a landmark poses a threat to the public safely, and demolition is the only alternative, documentation by way of photographs, measured drawings, or other descriptive methods should be made of both the exterior and interior of the landmark. Parts 2 and 3 S. Treatment A treatment change . . . to the landmark or its environment may [not] significantly alter the appearance of the landmark . . . [and] . the Commission should review the proposed treatment for character and style consistency . . . and [the treatment] should be added in a manner that does not disrupt the visual unity of the site.
