CITY OF SOUTH BEND UPDATES/CONCERNS: <br />Dan Skibins, Captain with the South Bend Police Departement, shared he oversees officers that <br />deal with gun violence. They focused on two different violent groups that caused a surge of deaths <br />within October. They will continue their efforts to curve gun violence. <br />Chair Tomas -Morgan asked for Mr. Skibins to give an update concerning the police post on Eddy <br />Street. <br />Captain Skibins stated he wasn't aware of the post. <br />Councilmember Troy Warner shared he believed this would be a place for officers to stop and do <br />reports, but last he knew, the building was not being utilized. Councilmember Warner asked <br />Captain Skibins to clarify. <br />Captain Skibins stated yes, it sounds like the building would be used for meetings and roll call. <br />Chair Tomas -Morgan asked for an update from the Sheriffs office. <br />Sheriff Redman proceeded to give an update on a new traffic unit. This unit would be for <br />complaints and concerns. The department had been able to receive grants this year. The latest <br />grant was for social services. He shared the money will allow for assisting violent domestic <br />victims quicker than what was currently happening. <br />Pam Claeys, River Park West, South Bend, IN, asked would the traffic unit be outside the City <br />limits but within the County limits. Sheriff Redman replied by stating yes. It would be outside the <br />City limits and primarily County. <br />RESIDENTS/NEIGHBORS UPDATES AND CONCERNS: <br />Pam Claeys, River Park West, South Bend, IN, gave an update concerning parking tickets and <br />maintenance. The parking tickets had not been an issue due to the minimal amount of students. <br />She shared the only maintenance that had been addressed was mowing, and there was an <br />abandoned trailer, but it was being taken care of with the help of Code Enforcement. She shared <br />how someone could donate empty ink or toner cartridges by turning them into the River Park <br />library. She ended her update by sharing information about a food drive that would be taking <br />place. <br />Councilmember Shelia Niezgodski asked the Sheriff if the domestic violence outreach would <br />encumber only the County. He replied, yes, that is correct, but if there is any way we can assist <br />our law enforcement partners within other cities, he would try and help. <br />Chair Tomas -Morgan shared updates from the Common Council Meeting on Monday, November <br />9`h, 2020, concerning mask -wearing, social distancing, and hand washing. <br />Councilmember Lori K. Hamann added that the County Council would be meeting tonight <br />concerning the County's mandatory mask -wearing. <br />4 <br />
