Coal Line Trail | Page 3
RELEVANT PROJECT EXPERIENCE
The city of South Bend sought to create a connection between communities on the west
side of the city with the popular trail along the Saint Joseph River downtown. Boland Drive
was historically dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists. The city turned to Burke to help
with the construction and project management of a new trail that would increase the area’s
safety and connectivity.
The project site proved challenging, winding along wetlands and an old known pauper
cemetery. Through consistent progress meetings and the use of mobile workstations,
the project team was able to construct a new trail without disturbing the surrounding
environment.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
• Trail construction to connect
communities with existing
downtown trail system
• Construction in
environmentally-sensitive
areas
• Construction observation and
project management services
• INDOT SiteManager
and mobile workstations
streamlined the process and
kept costs to a minimum
CLIENT
City of South Bend
Toy Villa
574.235.5920
TIME PERIOD
2018 - 2019
COST
$1,346,996
PROJECT TEAM
Jason Durr
Mike Carey
BOLAND DRIVE SHARED-USE PATH | SOUTH BEND, IN
