AWARD BID AND APPROVE CONTRACT— SELF - CONTAINED BREATHING
APPARATUS (SBCA) AND RELATE EQUIPMENT — (80120 GRANT)
Fire Chief Stephen Cox advised the Board that on October 23, 2012, bids were received and
opened for the above referenced equipment. After reviewing those bids, Chief Cox
recommended that the Board award the contract to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder
Hoosier Fire Equipment, Inc., 4009 Montdale Park Drive, Valparaiso, Indiana 46383, in the
amount of $730,095.50 for the Base Bid plus Options No. 6,7, 8, 9, and 13. Chief Cox noted in
his memo that the City will receive $395,303.60 in assistance from the Federal Government
through a grant, and the City will be responsible for the remaining $334,791.90. Chief Cox
clarified the discrepancy in the amounts was due to the finding that the grant will only reimburse
the number of units for the total amount of seats in the front -line apparatus, which totals seventy -
eight (78), rather than the original request of one - hundred, thirty units (130). Therefore, Mr. Inks
made a motion that the recommendation be accepted and the bid be awarded and the contract
approved subject to financing. Ms. Roos seconded the motion, which carried.
