Exhibit A- Engineer's Services
Understanding of the Assignment
McCormick Engineering, LLC (MCCORMICK) recently coordinated topographic survey and geotechnical
services to assess existing conditions affecting the operation of three inlets owned by the City near the
southwest quadrant of the intersection of Lindenwood Drive S and Laurelwood Drive N. These inlets drain
to an existing detention facility (Laurel Woods Pond) which then drains to Kiefer Ditch via a separated
storm sewer network. The City desires to develop two Prime construction contracts to improve the
drainage characteristics of these City inlets. The first Prime contract (Prime Maintenance Contract) is
anticipated to provide maintenance and sediment removal of the existing detention pond and storm
sewer system from the noted inlets to Lindenwood Drive S. The second Prime contract (Prime Outlet
Improvement Contract) will seek to reduce discharges to the existing Laurel Woods Pond by providing an
alternative outlet from the noted outlets to a point near the intersection of Laurel Rd and Auten Rd. The
general location of the site is shown in Figure 1.
Scope of Services
Study and Report Phase - (Prime Maintenance Contract)
MCCORMICK will perform the following tasks in order to complete the noted work:
• Prepare an exhibit that indicates the limits of proposed pipe cleaning construction, based on
previous topographic survey performed by JPR in October of 2020.
• Indicate anticipated access route through easement or private property to clear the banks of the
Laurel Woods pond and remove trash and sediment from the same pond.
• Notify the City if project elements appear to require Right -of -Entry to perform the Work.
• Respond to comments or suggestions from the City on the extent of proposed Work.
Study and Report Phase - (Prime Outlet Improvement Contract)
MCCORMICK will perform the following tasks in order to complete the noted work:
• Review the topographic and R/W survey by JPR of the vicinity with regards to the anticipated
alignment of a proposed storm sewer pipe relative to existing facilities along Lindenwood Drive
W and Auten Road.
• Prepare an exhibit that indicates the alignment and profile of a proposed storm sewer of limited
diameter (12" or less) to provide an outlet exclusively intended to drain the City inlets to Kiefer
Ditch at a point near Laurel Road and Auten Road.
• Notify the City if project elements appear to require Right -of -Entry to perform the Work.
• Meet with representatives of St. Joseph County in conjunction with City staff if proposed work
encroaches into R/W under the jurisdiction of the County.
Laurel Woods Drainage Improvement Project - Scope of Services
Page 13 of 15
(Exhibit A- Engineer's Services)
