Often the goals are to reduce costs and reduce schedule, yet
many times we are also able to make recommendations that enhance operations, increase efficiencies, improve
operator safety, and reduce life-cycle costs. Project examples:
PROJECTVALUE ENGINEERING with COST SAVINGSRESULTS
Dominion Water and By adjusting the route from the original route proposed in the RFP, we saved the
$1.2M in
Sanitation District owner money in permit fees, asphalt replacement, and traffic control
savings
Eastern Pipeline
Project
Douglas County,
Colorado
Water Resource Value engineering savings were provided by Reynolds and B&V on the project
Approx.
Centralization Project by providing proper risk allocation, reduction of unnecessary facilities, general
$4M
Parker, Colorado conditions savings, and more. Reynolds also worked with Stantec on pipeline
savings
savings by eliminating multiple control valves and alignment adjustments to save
money and schedule. A formal Peer review occurred among all team members
including B&V, Stantec and Reynolds.
Colorado Springs The partnering process made it possible to team with the owner and design
$380k in
Utilities engineers in developing the 60 and 90 and 100 percent drawings, along with
savings
Southern Delivery
corresponding pricing and V.E. considerations. A significant method change to
System – Segment S-3 the deep drainage way crossing was negotiated, as well as a significant change
in rock excavation quantity (price adjustment).
Cudjoe Regional Through a formal and iterative VE process involving a three-day workshop, items
$5M in
Waste-water System selected for project cost savings included alternative materials, installation
savings
Design-Build methods, and schedule modifications.
The Reynolds Team evaluated and proposed Alternative Wastewater
Islamorada
$6.5M in
Collection Systems for the Village of Islamorada and worked with the client in
Wastewater Collection
savings
a value enhancing effort. Our Team submitted 5 value engineering proposals
System
of which 3 were accepted. We proposed and submitted pipeline corridor
Design-Build-Operate
analysis; which included cost and scheduling activities. Additionally, Reynolds
submitted 13 change orders of which 9 gave back substantial credits to the
client and the remainder were Owner directed requests for additional scope of
work. Our lead engineer, ARCADIS, performed complete design quality control
and review during the design and construction administration phase.
Continuous feedback and communication kept the team in sync.
City of Savannah Through the VE/Vendor Selection process we worked with the owner to offer
$350k in
Presidents Street Bio-multiple options varying in price and outlining the differences. Through this
savings
Solids Dryer Facility process it allowed the owner to select the best product for their needs at the price
they wanted to spend, ultimately saving the owner money on the project’s price.

Page | 34
