Mask immediately adjacent surfaces with material that will withstand cleaning and restoration <br />procedures. <br />E. Protect roof membrane and flashings from damage with 3" foam boards under 1/2 inch <br />plywood laid on roof surfaces over full extent of work area and traffic route. <br />F. When using cleaning methods that involve water or other liquids, install drainage devices to <br />prevent runoff over adjacent surfaces unless those surfaces are impervious to damage from <br />runoff. <br />G. Do not allow cleaning runoff to drain into sanitary or storm sewers. <br />3.3 CUTTING CONTROL JOINTS <br />A. Mark locations of control joint locations on walls and obtain written approval of locations by <br />the Architect. <br />B. Carefully cut joints to required width and depth, as indicated on drawings, without causing <br />damage to remaining masonry. <br />C. Clean all dust and debris from cut joints with compressed air. <br />D. Install backer rods and seal joints with polyurethane sealant in accordance with Section 07 <br />9200. Allow sealant to cure for period recommended by sealant manufacturer before <br />application of masonry coating. <br />3.4 REPOINTING <br />A. Cut out loose or disintegrated mortar in joints to minimum 1/2 inch depth or until sound mortar <br />is reached. <br />B. Use power tools only after test cuts determine no damage to masonry units will result. <br />C. Do not damage masonry units. <br />D. When cutting is complete, remove dust and loose material by brushing. <br />E. Premoisten joint and apply mortar. Pack tightly in maximum 1/4 inch layers. Form a smooth, <br />compact concave joint to match existing. <br />F. Moist cure for 72 hours. <br />3.5 CLEANING EXISTING MASONRY <br />A. High Pressure Cold Water: Cold water blast with 2,500 psi pressure to concrete masonry <br />surfaces, at all locations, providing uniform finish. <br />MAINTENANCE OF MASONRY 04 0100 - 3 <br />
