• <br /> r <br /> •• <br /> Ordinance No. 69.330 - 91A <br /> AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE <br /> CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AMENDING <br /> CHAPTER 1, SECTION 1-4 OF THE MUNICIPAL <br /> CODE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND COMMONLY <br /> REFERRED TO AS COUNCILMANIC DISTRICTS. <br /> STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT <br /> The Common Council of the City of South Bend recognizes that it is <br /> charged with the legal authority to redistrict every ten years. <br /> The Council has reviewed the latest population data from the U.S. <br /> Census Bureau completed in 1990. <br /> The Council further believes in the concept of "one man one vote" <br /> and has used this guideline along with preserving neighborhood <br /> boundaries in preparing new councilmanic districts. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL of the City <br /> of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br /> SECTION I. The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, <br /> hereby deletes Section 1-4 of Chapter 1 of the Municipal Code of <br /> the City of South Bend, Indiana and amends it in its entirety as <br /> follows: <br /> Section 1-4 Six Councilmanic Districts <br /> The City is hereby divided into six (6) Councilmanic Districts <br /> which shall be known as: First Councilmanic District, Second <br /> Councilmanic District, Third Councilmanic District, Fourth <br /> Councilmanic District, Fifth Councilmanic District, and Sixth <br /> Councilmanic District. Such Districts are bounded as follows: <br /> (1) SOUTH BEND FIRST COUNCILMANIC DISTRICT <br /> Beginning at the intersection of the centerlines of the St. Joseph <br /> River and Colfax Ave. for a place of beginning; thence West along <br /> said line of Colfax Ave. to its intersection with the centerline of <br /> Williams St. ; thence North along said line to its intersection with <br /> the centerline of Lincolnway West (U.S. 20) ; thence Northwesterly <br /> along said line to its intersection with the centerline of the <br /> Conrail Railroad spur Right of Way line; thence Northeasterly along <br /> said line to its intersection with the centerline of Portage Ave. ; <br /> thence Northwesterly along said line to its intersection with the <br /> centerline of Elwood Ave. ; thence West along said line and said <br /> line as extended to the West to its intersection with the <br /> centerline of Bendix Dr. ; thence South along said line to its <br /> intersection with the centerline of Lincolnway West (U.S. 20) ; <br /> thence Northwesterly along said line to its intersection with the <br /> Portage and German Township boundary line; thence North along said <br /> boundary line to its intersection with the Lincolnway West (U.S. <br /> 20) Northerly boundary line; thence Northwesterly 7000 feet along <br /> said North line to its intersection with the southerly Right of Way <br />
