South Bend Redevelopment Commission <br />Annual Organizational Meeting - January 7, 2000 <br />6. 1999 ACCOMPLISHMENTS (CONT.) <br />The West Washington Chapin Redevelopment <br />Area was expanded to include the north side <br />of Western Avenue between Chapin and <br />Walnut. The three lots were purchased in the <br />1000 block of Western Avenue, between <br />Pentacostal Cathedral Church and the Elks <br />Lodge to create a parking lot for their use. <br />The City entered into a contract with Business <br />Districts Inc. to develop a comprehensive <br />strategy and action plan for the Portage <br />Avenue Commercial Corridor. <br />The Portage Avenue Commercial Corridor <br />Action Plan was completed and <br />recommendations for the Steering Committee <br />are currently being reviewed by Mayor <br />Luecke. <br />One public meeting has been held on the need <br />for the development of a comprehensive <br />strategy and Action Plan for the Miami Street <br />Commercial Corridor. <br />Funding in the amount of $550,000 was <br />awarded to the South Gateway, Western <br />Avenue and Lincolnway West Commercial <br />Corridors for the implementation of projects <br />based on the Commercial Corridor Action <br />Plans. <br />There was $8,000,000 of private investment <br />along the Commercial Corridors. <br />Commercial Corridor Surveys were completed <br />for Lincolnway West, Western Avenue and <br />South Gateway. <br />-5- <br />
