South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Rescheduled Regular Meeting - April 9, 1999
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
b. continued...
South Bend Heritage Foundation plans
to construct a commercial building on
approximately .85 acres of land
immediately north of the Sav -A -Lot
grocery store on the northeast corner of
Western and Chapin Street. The
estimated total project cost is $750,000.
The plan is to use the building for a
laundromat as well as other professional
service- provider /retailers. These
businesses will complement the Chapin
Market, both architecturally and
economically and bring much needed
services and products to the low -
income, predominantly minority
surrounding neighborhoods.
A review of the tax abatement records
finds that South Bend Heritage has been
associated with several previous tax
abatements.
South Bend Heritage Foundation is in
compliance with the reporting
requirements for each of the previous
abatements.
The building commissioner has
reviewed the petition and finds the
property to be properly zoned for the
proposed project.
HAWPDATA \COMMSN\040999.MIN -9-
