NEW BUSINESS (CONT.) <br />e. continued.... <br />Mrs. Koehler stated that South Bend <br />Heritage Foundation is working with <br />three builders: Bethel Designs, Garden <br />Homes and Willie's Oakbrook Homes. <br />She presented sample designs of the <br />builders' homes. South Bend Heritage <br />Foundation's new development would be <br />called the West Washington <br />Neighborhood. <br />Ms. Andrews stated that the taxes on <br />these homes would be higher than the <br />surrounding homes, because the homes <br />South Bend Heritage Foundation is <br />constructing will be new homes. <br />Ms. Andrews stated that the homes will <br />be located in the West Washington - <br />Chapin Development Area, so the home <br />owners would be eligible for tax <br />abatement. <br />Ms. Schwartz asked Mrs. Koehler if <br />counseling is provided to the purchasers <br />of the homes regarding how to deal with <br />paying a larger amount of taxes after the <br />tax abatement has expired. Ms. Andrews <br />stated that it is South Bend Heritage <br />Foundation's concern that the purchasers <br />of the homes have the ability to purchase <br />the home and maintain the <br />responsibilities that come along with the <br />home. She also noted that the purchasers <br />of the homes are being encouraged to <br />look into programs like REWARD and <br />Real Services for assistance.
