South Bend Redevelopment Commission <br />Regular Meeting - November 21, 1997 <br />6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.) <br />g. continued.... <br />building. I know at one point Mr. Gorny <br />was looking to try to expand southward on <br />to that property, but it was decided by <br />powers other than he that lot would be <br />better suited for the Credit Union. While <br />that has been proven to be a nice <br />relocation for that, it would seem that the <br />overall development of the Ivy Tech <br />campus, the Juvenile Justice Center <br />facility and some of the other <br />developments which are going on South <br />Michigan Street. While it is a wonderful <br />development, but to do all of this at the <br />expense of any viable commercial <br />development in that neighborhood, <br />somewhat flies in the face of the second <br />name of this Commission and the body of <br />Community and Economic Development. <br />We have serious concerns on the Council <br />about the hamstringing of his business and <br />the investment that he has made there and <br />hamstringing his ability to viably grow. If <br />anyone is familiar with the work, they <br />have put a lot into their plaza on South <br />Main. It is Mr. Gorny's intention, that has <br />been communicated to certain Council <br />members, that they would like to acquire <br />the property immediately south of the lot <br />they already own on Michigan Street so <br />that they could, in fact, do further <br />development of their own shopping plaza. <br />I don't think there is anything in the <br />concept of an expansion of their plaza as it <br />is maintained around and designed that <br />would in any way conflict with the not- <br />for- profit enterprises that are either further <br />HAHOMETPHIPPS \WPDATATOMMSM 112197.MIN -30- <br />
