South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting - November 21, 1997
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
g. continued....
Mr. Hunt asked Kevin Butler if he
indicated that American Bankers Life
Assurance is constructing single - family
housing in Indianapolis and Elkhart.
KEVIN BUTLER: No, they have been
acquiring —I'm sorry —they have been
bidding at tax sale on properties in
Indianapolis and Elkhart. They have
acquired properties in both Indianapolis,
Elkhart and St. Joseph County when the
properties were not redeemed. As I
indicated, I have been involved in two
sales of single - family property that they
have acquired through the tax sale process.
One of which was rehabbed prior to the
sale, and the other which was sold to the
purchaser with the understanding that the
purchaser will be providing the
rehabilitation and restoration of that
property. Those were two in Elkhart
County.
Mr. Hunt asked if there was anyone else
who wished to speak regarding Resolution
No. 1550.
JOSEPH GORNY: I am listed here as an
owner of a vacant lot located in the 1200
Block of South Michigan. I don't own any
property in the 1200 Block of South
Michigan. I think what you are referring
to is the 1100 Block, the address
specifically would be 1107. Also, it is not
a vacant lot. It is not taxed as a vacant lot.
I am paying taxes on a not vacant lot. My
HA H0ME\CPHIPPS \WPDATA \C0MMSM112197.MIN -27-
