South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting - November 7, 1997
5. OLD BUSINESS (CONT.)
a. continued....
Tom Ford, owner of Value Plus
Construction; and, Beverly J. King, home
owner of 2520 W. Calvert Street, all were
present at the meeting.
Mike Beitzinger noted that he prepared a
memorandum to the Commission with the
information from the Building Department
regarding additional home builders that
might have houses that have been affected
by the repealed ordinance.
Mike Beitzinger noted that there were 210
building permits issued for new homes
within the South Bend City limits from
January 1996 to September 1997. Of the
210 building permits issued, 115 were in
areas that were previously approved for
Residential Tax Abatement under the
repealed ordinance, and there has not been
one request for tax abatement in any area
that was repealed. Of the remaining 95
permits issued, 38 permits issued were in
areas that were never considered (or
approved) for residential tax abatement.
The remaining 57 permits were in areas
that were already approved for residential
tax abatement and were not repealed by
the October 1996 ordinance. Of these 57
permits, 45 homes have been completed
and nine homes are currently under
construction. In each of these cases, the
home owners are (or will be) receiving
residential tax abatement. However, three
homes were completed before the required
application (petition) for residential tax
H:\HOME\CPH PPS \WPDATA \COMMSM110797.MIN -5-
