code for setbacks and other design guidelines applicable to ground - <br />mounted solar energy systems and any associated accessory <br />structures. <br />ii. Character defining elements such as historic windows, walls, <br />siding, shutters, dormers, original roof line, chimneys and other <br />features should not be removed or altered in connection with the <br />installation of solar energy systems. <br />iii. Trees should not be removed to improye access to solar energy, <br />unless a tree or portions thereof is dead or diseased and the <br />applicant complies with applicable local requirements for tree <br />removal. <br />2. Supplemental Application Materials <br />The Historic Preservation Commission/hereby issues recommendations for the <br />submittion of applications for a COA for solar energy systems. Applicant are <br />encouraged to refer first to the official -COA application. When preparing <br />application materials, the„applicant should keep'in mind that it is difficult for the <br />Commission to conduct a fair and objective review and make a final decision if <br />the application fails to clearly`shows,the visual .arid aesthetic impact of the solar <br />energy system and all associated equipment or components. In addition to the <br />materials required by the application checklist, applicants should consider <br />providing the following: <br />a. Site Plan: A site plan that clearly—shows the location of the solar energy <br />system and all components. If ;an image of the actual property is not used, <br />%sketches should show the..solar`energy system drawn to scale in relation to <br />-the`roof and other structures or structural design features. <br />b. Site Photos: Site"'photos of the building and property showing the location <br />of the proposed installation as viewed from adjacent public thoroughfares. <br />c Representation'of Visibility: Sketches that visually demonstrate how the <br />`solar.energy,system and all associated equipment and components will <br />acfually.,appear on the specific site from any nearby public thoroughfare. <br />Components may include: any additional meters, inverters, disconnect <br />switchers, combiners, visible wiring or conduits, etc. <br />d. Example Images: Full color images or drawings of the proposed solar <br />energy system. An example on similar buildings, especially with the same <br />or similar roof style is recommended. <br />e. Equipment Specifications: Manufacturer specification sheets for the solar <br />energy system and all components. <br />Page 4 of 7 <br />
