During the designation process over the last six months, there has been an increase in <br />inquiries from residents in historic districts seeking more information about how to install solar in local <br />historic districts. Additionally, the Commission may expect to receive even more inquires as the Solarize <br />South Bend initiative launches in July 2017 with the guidance of the Michiana Area Council of <br />Governments and the South Bend Office of Sustainability. <br />The purpose of the attached "Guidance for the Design and Siting of Solar Energy Systems" document is <br />to improve transparency and compile best practices from Department of the Interior guidelines and <br />existing practices in other communities. <br />This document is not intended to alter any existing guidelines or requirements. <br />Italicized text is for reference only and may be struck from the document. <br />Sincerely, <br />Leah Thill <br />SolSmart Technical Advisor <br />
