Issues from our work prior to awareness of appropriateness — Improvements
Exterior electric and cable
At the time of purchase
The main house had electric provided by above - ground wire and cable,
coursing across the property from southeast of the house, through the
trees via two poles on the property and ultimately connecting to the
house on the east face of the two -story section. From there, it coursed
on the exterior, down the wall beside the sun room and entered the
house into the utility room at ground level. Some of the cable attachments to the
home appeared tenuous, and the cables through the trees were at risk of falling limbs
Vision
Functionally, we desired to not have the electric power to to the home to be at risk of
interruption, but also at risk of damage to the house if the lines were plucked from th
building due to downed branches. As well, the aesthetics of the home were to be
enhanced with the prospect of moving the cables subterranean instead.
Process
Researching the process of moving the electric involved communicating and
strategizing with the power company. Representatives from AEP came to the home
and determined that the electric, if changed, should come off of the transformer to th
north and east of the home rather than from the original source. Permissions from of
neighbor was obtained and the electric company came to make the new connection.
trench had been pre -made from the transformer edge of the property to the house an(
reconnected all in one day. The trench was filled and seeded.
Resultant lack of visible wires in the finished project
Schematic of old (red) and new (yellow) electric lines
Former utility poles
