STAFF REPORT CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS Date: 4 May rev., 21 April rev., 18 April 2016 Application Number: 2016-0401B Property Location: 841 Park Avenue Architectural Style/Date/Architect or Builder: T-Plan/l890Berger House Property Owner: Cole Hay Landmark or District Designation: Chapin Park Rating: Outstanding DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/ SITE: The 2 story frame house with a south bay has an irregular plan set upon a brick foundation. It has a cross gable roof with moulded rake and 3 -tab asphalt shingles. There is a small shed dormer on the central gable. The windows are nine -light casements in the front with 3 light transoms. The bay has 9/1 double hung wood windows. The front door is a wood panel door from the 1916 re -model with round light and arched lintel and decorative metalwork and hinges. There are some original wood storm windows and aluminum storm windows. ALTERATIONS: The fagade of the house was remodeled into a cottage style from a T plan with curved side wraparound porch and Doric columns above the knee wall. The 1/1 double hung windows were replaced with casements in the front and 6/1 in the rest of the house. The bay area was added in 1916 with 9/1 windows. The original wood roofing shingles have been replaced with asphalt shingles. The metal awning over the front entrance noted in the 1987 survey card has been removed and a new porch overhang is under construction with COA 2010-1001A. New corner boards have been installed around the entire house. There is no photo on file that shows corner boards existing originally.
