Public opposition: none <br />Commissioner Klusczinski sponsored a resolution to recommend the building located at <br />803 West Washington Street for establishment as an historic landmark, pursuant to <br />ordinance #5565-73, as amended; this resolution shall take effect immediately upon its <br />adoption by the commission. Seconded by Commissioner Hertel. Five in favor, none <br />opposed. <br />Vote: 5-0 <br />Resolution #16-01 Approved by unanimous consent. <br />III. HEARING OF VISITORS <br />None. <br />IV. REGULAR BUSINESS <br />A. APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />1. April 18, 2016 — Approved by general consent. <br />B. TREASURER'S REPORT <br />1. Location Report — Distributed. <br />Executive Director Elicia Feasel noted the 2017 HPC budget guidance worksheet <br />(received from the County), mirrors the current year. <br />C. STAFF REPORTS <br />1. Correspondence — Circulated. <br />2. Routine Maintenance Exclusions <br />3. Executive Director — In Packet. Discussion. <br />A. 806 Leland, South Bend — Joan Downs <br />Qualifications for Local Landmark Designation <br />B. 614 Sherman Avenue, South Bend — Clinton and Shundra Gilke <br />Support for preservation of neighborhood character — they would like something <br />to this effect sent to the city, so the city will take the neighborhood character into <br />consideration when/if the city builds on the adjacent property. Shundra and <br />Clinton spoke to the importance of maintaining the neighborhood, avoiding <br />building that was out of character — rentals, small homes, poor quality, etc., and <br />what the long-term effect could be on the neighborhood. <br />Public Comment: Joan Downs, 849 Forest — commented on Mutual Homes <br />development; feels they lack integrity and character; low quality buildings will <br />not last. <br />4. Indiana Bicentennial — Chairman Hertel: Geocache launched in April; about to <br />launch 2 travel bugs. Going to do several press releases to spark public interest. Well <br />received — people are enjoying it, and learning about places in the county they did not <br />know existed.
