8 July Meeting with Justin Bogunia owner of 202 Bartlett concerning his plans for the house and the need
to keep the exterior in shape. Needs to replace some small broken panes of glass in the garage door and
basement window, and secure garage doors with a lock as well as fix the eaves on the eaves side of the
house. He hopes to have this original triplex renovated and rented in 2016. Met with Russ Luchies at the
1855 Court House about the deterioration of the columns. They are failing: the original brick substructure
is visible in areas and the various layers of coatings attempting to "fix" are spalling off. Thoro-Seal «'as even
applied and made matters worse. Contacted David Duval (Architect for DHPA) about the use of
Rosendale Historic Cement. David said that the columns were in bad shape 15 years ago and wasn't
surprised by the current conditions. He recommended Edison Coating, Inc. for the Rosendale Cement.
Contacted Russ «ith the information and he said that is the firm he contacted and will follow up. Arranged
a meeting for 10 am on Thursday with Bob Hedel, County Building Engineer to discuss the replacement of
the 1897 Court House front doors. Completed Staff reports.
9 July On site visit to 1316 E. Wayne S. and with Gene Bamber for RME for tree removals and
replacements. Met with Bob Hedel and set up an another meeting with Larry Pearson of 7Gen
Construction LLC for Friday. The new doors will be wood but the glass panes but may be smaller to
accommodate the required "crash bars". Received confirmation that 20 architectural docents from Chicago
will be in South Bend for a tour on Saturday 18 July at 6:OOpm. Finished packets for Commissioners and
continued research for the tour on 18 July. Follow up with Russ Luchies on his conversation with David
Edison of Edison Coatings and the 1855 Columns. Russ will send them a sample for analysis.
10 July Mailed out all packets to Commissioners, homeowners and contractors. Meeting with
Larry Pearson and Bob Hedel concerning the doors on the 1897 Court House. The wood doors will
replicate what is there, the glass will be insulated glass, the size of the window will remain the sane because
the crash bar will be a smaller model. Issued an RME for the in kind doors. Attempted to contact the
Ambassadors For Christ in Chicago concerning the misuse of the Lafayette porch as a lavatory and
dwelling: cigarette butts all over the steps, candies melting on the steps, bottles littering the porch. Lots of
people must be trying to contact them as every extensions voice mail box was full. Continued with research
on the architects for the 18 July tour.
13-16 July SB 150 Project completed the research on the addresses for the 2000+ digitized negatives
in Quadrant 55, West Washington and Chapin Park.
17 July Follow up with David Gottlieb and continued to bone up on the research for the tour on
Friday. General Office work.
18 July Dinner and Then and Now Tour for 15 Chicago architects and docents. 5:00-10:00.
