Director's Report <br />October 2013 <br />16 September The beginning of a series of meetings with Kevin J. Aust and David <br />Bennett of AECOM concerning the impact of the roundabouts on Leeper Park with the <br />conversion to 2 way streets. Strongly suggest that the roundabout on 933 be located at <br />Barlett rather than at Park Lane to avoid the school and radically impacting the Park. HPC <br />monthly meeting. Contacted Donna Pangborn that the COA for the Island was approved. <br />17 September More Research and prep for the 11:00 and 4:00 Focus Group <br />meetings on the roundabouts which I attended. Prepared and mailed out all approved <br />COA. Submitted 3 completed 106 Reviews. Attended the Board of Commissioners <br />meeting for the appointment of Javier Aguilar to the HPC. Contacted Javier. <br />18 September Car tour of Districts in the morning: Taylor's Field, Edgewater and <br />East Wayne Street also landmarks on West Wayne Street. Long conversation with Joann <br />Sporleder on the 2 way streets. Attended the "Pin -Up" and was delighted to learn that both <br />Memorial and SBCSC liked the Bartlett location of the roundabout. <br />19 September Arranged for a 10:30 Monday meeting with Javier.Met with Mr. LeRoy <br />Cobb about the designation of the 1700-1800 blocks of N. Elmer in Marquette Heights <br />built in the 1950s by the Better Homes of South Bend, Inc (May 21, 1950). Mr. Cobb <br />declared that this was the first Black NFP in the United States. Will arrange for Staff to go <br />out a look at the housing stock. Spoke with several people about the changes on the Isalnd <br />in E. Wayne, assured them that Commissioners had approved the COA for the changes. <br />Met with the owners of 604 S. Carroll-Migul Becerril about the 5 vinyl windows and the <br />installation of the siding without building permits or COA approvals. They applied for <br />COA and will be at the October meeting. John Califano applied for COA for 531 S. St. <br />Joseph for in-kind work on roof, windows and fascia; also provided him with information <br />on the house, the 115 South Street site Owner of 14309 Adams has a rotting tree, <br />provided him with Arborists to evaluate. <br />20 September Staff toured St. Paul's Methodist Church. I had in depth conversations with <br />the new Pastor, Rev. Thomas Thews, and the implementation of the work proposed by <br />Notre Dame. They have opened up the glass interior domes to natural light and <br />refurbished the sanctuary chandeliers and restored the Sunday School Office. Suggested <br />using the windows as subjects for note cards for fundraising. Staff then toured the Masonic <br />Temple/Scottish Rite. Contacted Professor Uplekar with Rev. Thews remarks. Arranged <br />a luncheon meeting with Code Director, Shubhada Kambli for next week. <br />23 September Met with new Commissioner, Javier Aguilar and gave him copies of <br />materials. Will copy file for the LaSalle Hotel. Received e-mail from Scott Ford thanking <br />me and HPC Staff for working with AECOM. Completed two 106 Reviews for Rehab. <br />24 September On site visit to 1005 E. Wayne. Steve was out earlier to check on <br />the site. Several Contractors involved for replacing windows and doors. Casement <br />windows are in very bad shape and openings too narrow on second floor for egress. Met <br />
