Director's Report
September 2012
21 August 7:30 am Rotary Board meeting at La Salle Grille addressing various
Community Projects including Howard Park which is on the National Register. Prepared
and mailed out all approved COAs to homeowners. Met with Bob Kline of 226
Hammond for the selection of the door -it was a 6 raised panel colonial style door without a
window. Met with Mary Prince for an RME_COA for the re -roof and chimney rebuild at
853 Forest. Met with Terry Reasor at 1021 Riverside Drive to determine if his proposed
yard work would require a Commission hearing. It won't; he filled out an application for
the work and will be asking for it later.
22 August Spoke with Mr. Robert Victor 1705 E. LaSalle concerning his windows that
Wayne had assessed 18 months ago and recommended the Schobergs. They declined the
work. Will arrange to have Staff meet at 1705 E. LaSalle on Friday at 10:30.
23 August General Office Work. Prepared statistics for Invoice for City's Stipend to
HPC. Made sure to note Code and Building violations turn in as well as COAs and 106
Reviews and also included the monthly reports from Staff through June in pdf format. Sent
to Pam Myer, Mayor, Scott Ford and Sue Solmos.
24 August 1705 E. LaSalle meeting with Mr. Victor to assess windows. They are painted
open, only the lower sashes are operable; some have loose panes but are in overall good
condition; the surrounding wood work is exquisite. Work should be done by a bonded
and insured contractor. Don Napoli called after reading the Legal Notice in the paper.
Suggested the Council Chambers and I secured those for the 17 September meeting.
Elicia and I toured River Park and the restoration of the WPA wall as well as their business
District since they are looking for a Main Street designation. Met with Engineering,
Building Department and Library Maintenance at the Avon because of a fallen piece of
terra cotta. Spoke with Laura Gardner(630 969-0992 ext 4347) from Lisle Park District
(Illinois) arranging a tour for her seniors -either a Then and Now, or if the weather is bad a
Districts tour because they will have a bus for April 2013.
27 August Received a listing of vacant and abandoned houses from Code via Todd.
Cross referenced that list to our Districts. Rest of the day off as a sick day.
28 August Phone calls and e-mails from Glenda Lamont and Barton Bennett in the
East Bank about the housing Todd was proposing for a move and what our role would be.
Phone call from Bill Sniadecki about the Avon and Greene School. Elizabeth from 717
Forest came in about applying for a fence around her yard. Corresponding with Aaron
Summers-Effler about what need to be done about his tree. Permits from City have been
here since May. Sent letters to Laura Gardner and Matthew Leming. Spoke with Aaron
Peri about the Avon terra cotta fall. He related that his Ambassadors noticed/ found two
pieces -one the size of a coffee mug and the other like a cinder block on the 21 August on
the southeast side of the Avon. No one recalls if there was any debris around the pieces.
The Library was notified at some point and it became a safety issue because of Art Beat.
