Director's Report <br />November 2012 <br />16 October Prepared and mailed out approved COAs. RME-COA for 306 LaMonte <br />Terrace for re -roof. Spoke with Wayne Doolittle about concerns he had after receiving a <br />letter from Pella Windows stating that they were installing on Forest Avenue; explained that <br />the owner was restoring the original size windows based on shadow lines in the interior. <br />Promoted the Historic Districts Tour at the Botanical Society meeting and at Green <br />Drinks. Also encouraged people at Green Drinks to support the landmarking of the Avon <br />next Monday <br />17 October RME-COA for 519 S. St. Joseph for a re -roof now that it is under new <br />ownership. Contractor A&M Construction, Jared, showed us pictures of the interior; there <br />appears to be a ballroom on the third floor. The new owner wants to remove a rear <br />addition at some point in the future as it is completely deteriorated. I had sent Sheila Mc <br />Carthy, the new owner, a letter encouraging her to come in and share her plans for the <br />house. Interview by Mark Peterson from WNDU on the Avon and the Commission's <br />decision. Attended the debut of the Local Historic Districts of South Bend tour. <br />18 October Turned in Data Board request for HPC icon on L.L. Lows property tax <br />system. Prepared handout for Hoosier History Detectives tour. E-mailed response to <br />Sheila McCarthy about 519 S. St. Joseph. Spoke with Mik Perry who wants to create an <br />advocacy group for HPC called PAL, Preservation Advocates Love South Bend, for <br />citizens older than 18 years and the student group targeting 4-8 graders Preservation PALS <br />with characters and interactive maps and sites. <br />19 October General Office Work. Approved 2 106 Reviews. Prepared for Monday's <br />Council Meeting on the Avon, conversations with our attorney on rejected MOU. <br />22 October 10:00 Then & Now Tour for 9 Hoosier History Detectives, included an <br />inside glimpse of the Morris and Palais. Meeting with Tim and Mik prior to the Z & A <br />meeting—responded to phone messages that had piled up during the day. 4:25 Zoning and <br />Annexation Committee meeting that didn't happen until 5:30 on the Avon.- 7:00-10:00 <br />Common Council meeting on landmarking of the Avon. The Council voted down the <br />landmark while the Library agreed to save the terra cotta and store it. <br />23 October Getting re -organized after the Avon and focusing on developing the public <br />support momentum generated by the Avon toward a re -vitalization of downtown South <br />Bend. Phone conversation with Gerald Forsburg from Virginia interested in the outcome <br />of the Avon. He is a friend of Simon Lima in Edgewater. He is an architect and has a <br />salvage company. aforsburg(—@forsburaassociates.com and midadanticsalvage.com. Also <br />meeting in Office with Greg Anderson property owner in River Bend and interested in 620 <br />N. St. Joseph, 230 E. Navarre and 539 Riverside all supposedly in foreclosure with 230 <br />Navarre in deplorable condition. Gave him copies of the standards for both districts and <br />will work with him if he gets control of the properties. <br />
