HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
PRESERVATION SPECIALIST REPORT
May 21, 2012
The last four weeks have been a barrage of activity. This last weekend we
successfully hosted a Restore Michiana workshop on exterior siding repair and -painting.
We had a great event through the Southhold awards. I was also very pleased to be a part
of the selection committee for the State Theatre project along with Elicia Feasel. Our
participation in these events that involved media coverage has had some positive
feedback with some of the public that did not who we are and what we do. I was a guest
on Experience Michiana with Gordy Young on WHIT to promote the siding workshop
and have been invited back in the next following months to discuss additional home
repair/preservation topics.
Houses turned in for Code Violation: 310 South St -collapsing rear porch
318/322 Madison grass and trash
626/628 Portage grass and trash
403 Parry eaves and door collapse
211 Bronson garage roof collapse
517 Lindsey grass and trash
401/411 Madison grass and trash
751 Cottage Grove front porch collapse
1172 LWE grass, trash, and broken window
609 N Lafayette, rear grass and trash
Houses turned in for lack of permits/COAs:
408 W Marion, new fence and garage addition
722 Arch, vinyl siding
522 W Navarre, new porch and roof
Houses visited for consultation/recommendations
415 Parry
246 S William
250 S William
511 W Colfax (twice)
617 Chapin Place
614/616 Carroll
Steve Szaday
Preservation Specialist
