HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
PRESERVATION SPECIALIST REPORT
March 19, 2012
Mother Nature as usual has been very temper -mental. As the weather improves, more
construction and remodeling will commence. We have had a few calls in regards to
guidance about future projects including: 906-908 Leland and 612-614 South Carroll,
which were both for windows. We also experienced even more activity in regards to 106s
and demolitions. Twenty-six houses we're considered for 106 grants and eleven houses
considered by the city for demolition. 1110 Harvey is part of that list and unfortunately
has been stripped and gutted beyond repair. 502 Laporte was considered by the
commission for historic recognition in 2001, (at least the rear structure of the building),
but was not designated as such. -. - --- -
We were also able to stop and find a lack of permit for 615 Edgewater, re -roofing
Houses turned in for Code Violation: 615 S St Joseph
519 S St Joseph
707 Rex St
609 Rex St
715 South St.
I have met with Craig Barber, our certified painter, at our workshop location in New
Carlisle. Our friends at United Coating Technologies have graciously donated the
necessary primers for the project. We are currently planning our workshop agenda and
syllabus. I will include that information in next month's report.
Steve Szaday
Preservation Specialist
