Director's Report <br />June 2012 <br />21 May Participated in the N.I.C.H. Finance Committee meeting at the Center for <br />History. On site meeting with Steve Szaday with Mr. Rosario Mittiga who has taken over <br />two properties from James McCormick( bankruptcy issue) one on River and the other at <br />722 Arch. We have been getting phone calls that Vinyl siding was being applied to the <br />house and turning it into the building department to red tag since there were no COA or <br />permits pulled. The siding and windows on the house can be repaired and repainted. <br />There was an attempt to remove the paint at the rear of the house by power washing -which <br />shredded the siding. Discussed various ways of removing paint and restoring siding and <br />windows. Gave Mr. Mittiga the Edgewater Standards and COA applications and sent him <br />the Contractor Listing. Met with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon about the public hearing for the <br />West LaSalle Avenue National Register District and addressed their concerns. Attending a <br />Howard Park Neighborhood meeting that addressed plans for improvements to Howard <br />Park; the plans for the demolished Sollitt and Transpo sites and the CSO work on East <br />Washington and the highly publicized/emotional tree issue. At this mecting Jitin Kain, <br />South Bend Community and Economic Development, stated that the development of the <br />Sollitt and Transpo sites is for entrepreneurs and private developers to work on within the <br />East Bank Plan—and not the City. The City will provide infra structure. This position is a <br />180 from the previous administration and a welcome one at that. Presented at the monthly <br />HPC meeting. Informal conversation about the Avon Theater with Mayor Pete after the <br />meeting along with Commissioner Patrick. <br />22 May Posted Memorial Day closing notice. Prepared and mailed all approved <br />COAs. Met with three young men from the Civil Rights Heritage Center led by <br />Mohammed Shabazz who were researching the African American Business District. <br />Assisted them with providing useful resources and Elicia showed them the Sanborn Books. <br />Explained the COA for a fence process to Bonnie Sima of 1019 Riverside and sent her our <br />link. Worked on registration and hotel reservations for the National Alliance of <br />Preservation Commissions for July 18-21 in Norfolk Virginia, Staff has applied for State <br />CLG Scholarships to cover expenses. Elicia and I followed up on Joan Downs report of <br />activity at a duplex on Riverside Drive and photographed the scaffolding. Looked like <br />soffit repairs. <br />23 May Had Steve Szaday investigate the reported activity at the Riverside Drive <br />duplex. All repair work by new owner and being properly executed. Steve gave book and <br />applications for future use. Followed up Brian Cline at Adams High School for students to <br />perform research on buildings at HPC Resource Center beginning on Friday. Attended <br />2013 Budget and Benefits County Department Heads' meeting. 2013 Budget is to be flat. <br />Of the "Oops Money" the County will realize only $3.3 million which will go into the <br />"rainy day fund". Drafted Support Letter for Morris Performing Arts Center seeking an <br />award as an Outstanding Historic Theatre from the League of Historic American Theatres. <br />
