Director's Report <br />August 2012 <br />16 July Prepared for HPC monthly meeting and the Avon theatre was the main <br />thrust of the days work and preparations. Participated in the HPC regular meeting. <br />17 July Prepared and Mailed out all COAs approved at meeting. Organized Office <br />for attendance at the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions in Norfolk, VA. Met <br />with Bill Schalliol, Todd Zeiger and Jitin Kain and Tamara concerning availability of city <br />owned vacant lots to move the landmarked Frederickson Candy Store and Fuerbringer <br />House if buyers could be found. Re- capped Avon Theatre with Kathryn Roos and sent <br />relevant materials in Inter Office Mail. Presented Treasurer's Report for BSSB meeting at <br />5:30. <br />18 -22 July Attended NAPC Forum 2012 in Norfolk, VA. <br />23 July Called Kathryn Roos per her request. Left voice message, but received no <br />reply. Returned Bruce Bondurant's phone call (255 8612) concerning the results of the <br />meeting on Frederickson's Candy Store. Worked with Larry Meteiver and Kathy <br />Cekanski IF errand on the first reading of the Avon Land marking Ordinance. Responded <br />to Bill Sniadecki's e-mail inquiry on the Avon. Responded to Tim Janowiak's (271 7568) <br />invitation to tour #84 and provide him with information on the building for the Studebaker <br />Drivers Club meeting in South Bend later this month. Drafted response to SHPO, Robert <br />Carter's letter about the demolition of the Roma that was in the National Register multiple <br />resource district. <br />24 July Dealt with aftermath of Common Council meeting and Kathy Cekanski <br />Ferrand's perception that procedures weren't followed on the Avon. Responded to Angela <br />Gambill (850 7245) inquiry on how to fix her porch on the landmark at 5450 Miami. Sent <br />information via e -mail. <br />25 July Met with Deputy Auditor on procedure issues with funding/disbursements <br />for districts tour. Corresponded with Kimberly Bahnsen, an Architect that has relocated <br />from California to South Bend that I met at the Forum. Sent her resume to Greg Kil and <br />Bill Lamie; gave a copy to Bill Coleman at Rotary. Rory Hoikemier dropped off COA <br />application for the re- opening of the porch at 549 Edgewater. David is supposed to e -mail <br />with details and materials. Completed letter to SHPO on 221 N. Michigan Street. <br />26 July Elicia and I met with Bill Lamie at ADG. ADG did the proposal at the <br />Avon site for South Bend Civic Theatre. The Avon itself was not proposed for re -use as a <br />theatre —but a bar and or dance /rehearsal studio. The venue was too narrow for their <br />needs. Met with Commissioner Lynn Patrick and Susan Peet who owns the former Social <br />Security Office near Edgewater LHD. She is trying to sell the property but has concerns <br />about the deteriorating structures along LWE. Provided her with Shawn Peterson's contact <br />
