Historic Preservation Commission
President's Report - May V th, 2011
• 04/18/2011 7:00-8:30P: HPC Monthly Meeting (Rm 1308).
• 04/30/2011 11:00-2:30P: Attended Energy Audit #2 demonstration by Ron
Zmyslo at 1012 Riverside Drive (the Michael & Gabrielle Keen residence). HPC
attendees: Elicia Feasel, Wayne Doolittle, and Michael Voll. Test and discuss
building science concepts - i.e. convection and the stack effect. Original
workshop in 2010 (612 Portage Avenue) did not produce blower test data due to
excessively high leaks in the building envelope. Today's test was challenged by
occasional, strong wind gust. But with delicate compensation, data points were
finally recorded and will be available for review. Findings reinforce the theory
that excessive energy loss (heat) does not occur through window and door
openings, drafts enter the structure from the lowest level of windows (basement)
and what might typically feel like drafts around upper story windows is actually
air evacuation. Also "comfort" problems (cold areas around window/door
openings) do not necessarily represent energy loss.
• 05/16/2011 Repair HPC Micro cassette Transcriber/Dictator Model #BM -850.
Install new coupler jack (D -Sub connector), solder patch cord to pc board, add
servo boss pins for broken mount. It works!
