On our way to the meeting Wayne and I drove down the alleyway that intersects behind Forest
off of Riverside Drive and counted 17 privacy fences; only one of which was painted white. One of the reasons
why they go unnoticed is because the wood has weathered and they do blend in and they are along the rear of
the property. Jeff Dierbeck drove through the neighborhood as well and from the front of the houses from the
street along Park, Navarre, Forest, Riverside, Leland and LaMonte (I have the listing with the addresses) he
counted 34 rear/side privacy fences --only one of which was painted (and that one was white).
The Hosle Family has gone to Court concerning their problems/issues with these two houses (drugs, pit bulls,
profanity, fights not to mention thefts from the Hosle's garage and being under constant observation by these
people) and the judge recommended that they erect a privacy fence along the perimeter of their property. The
Hosle's have two young boys and are expecting a third child very soon. They are willing to compromise on the
design by keeping a 4 foot fence/gate on the street side behind the setback of the porch but they absolutely
desire a privacy fence along the alley, rear and side of their home to enclose their back yard.
Therefore, I am calling for a Special Meeting for 9:30 on Monday, 24 May 2010 in the Office Conference Room
to re -address this COA with Mrs. Hosle and Mr. Dierbeck. We will need at least four Commissioners for a
quorum, please let me know ASAP so that I can contact the homeowner and contractor. I am also under the
impression that the homeowner would not be adverse to meeting sooner, rather than later; but our by-laws
state 5 days notice. Please let me know ASAP.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
Catherine
Director,
Historic Preservation Commission
of South Bend and St. Joseph
County, Indiana
574 235 9798
file:HCADocuments and Settings\chostethLocal Settings\Temp\XPgrpwise\4BF285D3SJC... 5/24/2010
