When awnings are used, they should be of <br />canvas material. <br />Prohibited <br />Original doors, windows, and hardware shall not be discarded when they can be restored and <br />reused in place. New window and door openings, which would alter the scale and proportion <br />of the building may not be introduced. Inappropriate new window and door features such as <br />metal, vinyl or fiberglass awnings, hoods or aluminum insulating glass combinations <br />that require removal of original windows and doors, shall not be installed. <br />Not Recommended <br />Fake shutters that would detract from the existing character or appearance of the building should <br />not be used. <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval. Keller built the Free Classic at 1041 Riverside in 1907. The house is 2'/z storeys with a <br />square plan set on a concrete block foundation. The roof is hipped with gable projections and <br />returns and is covered with asphalt shingles. The windows are double hung 1/1 and there is a bay <br />window on the first floor of the north facade. The house was built with wood siding and shingles <br />and has a brick chimney. The house is oriented to the northwest on Riverside Drive. <br />ALTERATIONS: <br />The house was aluminum sided before 1985 and the survey card notes that all of the window sills <br />and lintels were removed except those for the bay window. The window surrounds on the front <br />second storey windows appear to be original. A rear addition with a one storey, hipped roof with <br />aluminum siding to match house was approved by the HPC on August 4, 1986.
