Wayne Street <br />.Rating;: Contributing <br />DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/ SITE <br />Two story, rectangular floor plan, wood fame construction with limestone first story. Side gabled roof with gable <br />returns and simple entablature. The roof is covered with asphalt shingles, 8/8 double hung sash windows with <br />ornamental louvered shutters. On the south of the home, there is a one story porch wing with flat roof and diamond <br />pattered wood railing. Porch wing fagade has plain entablature and plain pilasters, enclosed with sliding glass <br />doors and pergola. Attached two car garage is on the south end of the home. <br />ALTERATION'S: <br />The survey card, updated in 1998, notes "major" alterations to this .home including: aluminum, storm door and <br />windows, enclosed south porch wing, and siding. <br />C of A 2002-0522 was approved for the removal of "existing gray asphalt 3 -tab shingles from roof of home and <br />garage and replacement with light `shake wood brown' color asphalt architectural shingles on roof and garage." <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: <br />Kitchen addition with porch. Kitchen addition will add 248' to the house: 8'x31' enclosed, plus a covered porch of <br />about 7'x20' *. Siding will match existing; wood shingle and limestone; the balance of shingles and stone will be <br />determined in part by the cost of reusing existing stone and/or cost of new stone. New windows will match <br />existing. <br />* Upon examination cif the submitted plans, it was noted thm the dimensions s cif the proposed porch ale actually <br />3''x 2O ". Measurements were double checked and veriijied as draivings are to scale: 114 " : 1 'O ". <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: <br />Kitchen addition to be built on the northwest corner of the home, essentially reclaiming 14' 10" of width (for the <br />addition, plus and additional 5' of porch space) and 3 P of length of the current backyard for living; space. (Figure <br />1) The addition will be one story, the foundation of which will be limestone, and the exterior walls will be wood <br />shingles matching the existing facades in materials and appearance, and replicating the pattern of limestone topped <br />by wood shingles already extant. (Figure 2 and see photographs also) If possible, existing stone (removed from <br />rear fagade to accommodate the addition) will be re -used. Addition is essentially a "backwards L" and wraps the <br />northwest corner of the home, ending approximately 1' short of the north face of the existing garage. (Figure 3) The <br />new roof (minimum slope of and diamond patterned railing (to replicate existing) will be concealed frons <br />view on Jacob Street by the gable of the existing garage. Square pilasters and columns on the proposed addition <br />will match, in shape and style, the existing pilasters on the enclosed porch on the south .face of the home. Copper <br />gutters and downspouts will be added, as currently exist on the home. Windows will be divided lite, either 6 over 6 <br />or 8 pane divided light window slio«n on West Elevation of plans. (Manufacturer not specified.) Addition will <br />necessitate the addition of a new door to the garage that opens out to the north. The door will be added; the existing <br />window on north face of garage will not be removed or altered. All doors will also contain divided lites. <br />(Manufacturer not specified.) <br />A new porch is also proposed, the dimensions of which are 5'x20' on the north of the addition detailed above.
