Historic Preservation Commission The Burnett C. Bauer Trust with B. Patrick Bauer as Trustee, owns the property at the northwest comer of Cleveland Road/State Road 23 and Gumwood in Granger, Indiana. Over 20 years ago, they petitioned to have the historic home at 16021 Cleveland Road and the site containing approximately 260' frontage on Cleveland Road/State Road 23 by 1326' frontage on Gumwood declared a historical structure and historic site. Some 25 years later we have seen significant commercial development of the immediate area and continued traffic and development encroaching on the land surrounding the historical home. The Burnett C. Bauer Trust now would ask that the Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and St. Joseph County consider their request to relocate the historic home at 16021 Cleveland Road 1320' north of Cleveland/State Road 23 to a new site immediately north of the existing land servicing the existing home at 52725 Gumwood (see attached drawing). The historic home which presently contains a law office and retail store would sit on the site measuring 90' frontage on Gumwood and 260' depth (east and west). This new location is presently zoned residential and may be used as a residence for Mr. Burnett C. Bauer and his daughter. At a later date, it may be put into some office or business usage, as it is now being used, but they would then be required to rezone this 90' x 260' parcel should they wish to change such usage. This new location, with an existing key number of 02- 2017-0370.05 is presently zoned residential. I have attached an email from the Building Department which shows that subject to your approval of this request and our ability to meet setbacks and other code issues, we could relocate the home to this new site. We would make every reasonable effort to place the home at least 100' west of the Gumwood frontage subject to codes and demands of the various governmental departments necessary to permit this relocation. Finally, we would ask that you consider relinquishing the historic site designation for the 260' x 1320' parcel. We thank you in advance for your consideration of this request.
