Commission, as well as, the many citizens whom she has served and
assisted, view her with affection and respect;
Now Therefore: This Historic Preservation Commission declares
that the services volunteered by Joann Sporleder are a significant and
material benefit to the citizens of South Bend and Saint Joseph
County, and it is proper that her good work be publicly recognized and
remembered.
Timothy Klusczinski, President
Mary Jane Chase, Treasurer
Linda Riley
David Sassano, Architect Historian
Is there a second?
Linda Riley: Second
Gerald Ujdak, Secretary
Todd Zeiger
Lynn Patrick, Vice President
January 28, 20o8
In a motion by Timothy Klusczinski with a second by Linda Riley, the motion passes
unanimously.
The chair then recognizes Mikki Dobski-Shidler representing the Mayor of South Bend.
Mikki Dobski Shidler: I am representing Mayor Luecke and it is an honor to be here.
In light of what you just learned about Joann I have a Key to the City that the Mayor
would like to present. The Mayor could not be here tonight because he had to be on the
fourth floor, but I feel blessed to be here. And as President Klusczinski said, this is in
recognition of not only your 35 years of service but also because Joann was one of the
founding members (of the HPC) along with Ruth Price and got the ball rolling like she
has for so many things. I really want to say that you have been a real role model for me.
She would call and it would always, inevitably be when I was, "Oh I can't believe all
this! Things are just not fun!" And you would call with something so neat and interesting
to do. So, it is really my pleasure to be able to present this to you.
Joann: I have never had such an honor. Thank you so much. My Goodness!
2
