January 2008
HPC Staff is hard at work preparing applications (one for South Bend and a second for
St. Joseph County) to become Indiana's 11`x' Preserve America Community! Preserve
America Community designation means:
■ Grant funds available only to Preserve America Communities ($1Orn in 2007)
■ Federal recognition
■ Solidifies our CLG status, and will eventually mean a "preferred" status in the
eyes of the DHPA. (In the near future, DHPA/DNR, when reviewing
grant/scholarship applications, will rank applicants for consideration based
partially upon whether or not that applicant has achieved Preserve America
designation.)
■ Affords the HPC another opportunity to connect with other organizations and
agencies in the area; both through the solicitation of letters of support for the
application, and through future P.A. collaborations.
Catherine is working on the County application, as well as preparing the resolutions that
both County Council and Common Council must pass as a component of the application.
Amy is preparing the City application and has been contacting former project partners,
city/county agencies, neighborhood associations, and private businesses to request letters
of support for our application.
Application deadline is March 1, 2008!
